Your Questions About Elegant Centerpieces

Donna asks…

Can anyone recommend a wedding florist in VA beach that is elegant and not too pricy?

We are getting married in VA beach and I need to find a florist that can help with centerpieces and bouquets that is classy and elegant yet one that can have a variety of modern looks.

Susan answers:

Try Norfolk Wholesale Floral. They are located in downtown Norfolk. If you don’t want to be stuck with centerpieces after the ceremony, you can rent them. They also have arches and candelabras to rent as well. I will be using them for my upcoming wedding next April.

Sharon asks…

What can I put around the reception tables instead of using centerpieces?

We can’t have centerpieces because it’ll be removed as soon as the food arrives. So, I’m thinking of putting little items around the table. I want it to be elegant, but I can’t think of anything else but candles. What do you think?

Any ideas would be great! Thanks!

Susan answers:

You could get each guest a cute wedding favor and put it at each spot

Susan asks…

What are some creative centerpieces I can use at my wedding? My colors are Hot pink, black & a hint of silver?

Wedding is on Aug 1st 2009! coming soon!I would like them to be reasonable i. price, I will have 25 tables so as cheap and elegant as possible! THANKS~ I look forward to the suggestion

Susan answers:

What kind of flowers are you using? You could use like pink flowers, roses, daisies.. Etc. In a glass vase. You could maybe drop some silver beads on the bottom of the vase and fill with water, and a black small ribbon.

Your Questions About Elegant Centerpieces

Sandy asks…

needing help with wedding centerpieces… any suggestions for something elegant and inexpensive?

Indian wedding for about 500-600 people which means 50-60 tables. Might need to get something different for the RSVP tables. looking for something not over the top but not dull either. Any help would be appreciated.

Susan answers:

Ah… We have 400 people invited and these are my ideas:
1. Buy a couple wholesale cases of vases, buy flameless tealights and fill them with those clear colored rocks and place the light inside (it provides a fire-free way to look like a candle) Then put flowers/branches coming out of the vase- it looks like light-up flowers, really beautiful…

2. Get plastic cake stands for each table and put a candle on the top (there are flameless larger candles you can get as well) then put 2 or 3 different colored flowers around the two bottom tiers. It looks like a cake with a candle on the top, and it gorgeous!

3. Order large flat-bowls (glass) and do floating flowers and candles- gives a nice ambiance for a night time wedding

Good Luck!!! Oh yeah, and remember, you can get a lot of wholesale items on ebay in large quantities!

Lizzie asks…

i’m using candelabras as my wedding centerpieces and need a elegant way to number my tables that won’t clash

Susan answers:

I would do something like this

http://www.weddingcuts.com/table-numbers.html

Or just a nice frame that matches the candelabras.

Donna asks…

Making centerpieces. I have 8″ inch mirrors and 5×5 candles. Looking for something elegant to go around them?

The mirrors and White candles are setting on a gold plate charger… looks great, but lacking that “something” around the bottom of the candle…. (Colors are black, gold, white). These are for a class reunion. NEED SOME SUGGESTIONS PLEASE.

Susan answers:

What about putting gold or black gems or marbles around it? Or a black satin bow around the candle? You can put beautiful black feathers and glue them around the bottom of he candle. Or put loose pearls on the charger.

Your Questions About Elegant Centerpieces For Wedding Tables

Wednesday Jan 25, 2012

Carol asks…

pizza at a wedding?!?! ?

My fiancee and I are planning to be married in March. We are getting married beside a lake in a gazebo, then moving our reception about 100ft. away to a pavilion. (In Georgia, late March, you usually have decent weather that’s not too hot or cold to be outside) Neither of us are very (I’m not sure of the word) high maintenance. We both come from middle class families. We are both very laid back people, we like to spend time with our friends, and enjoy having people over quite a bit. We want our wedding reception to be more like a party-type function. No elegant sit-down dinners, and no speeches. Just good food, good people, and fun. So far I have planned for everyone to walk over, grab some pizza, and a beer, and sit down and listen to music. Then I have a party/prom-esque type play list for dancing. I think a wedding should be how the couple wants it to be. We want ours completely laid-back. We have Hawaiian/luau type decorations, and our centerpieces are goldfish in goldfish bowls with blue stones in the bottom. My bridesmaids dresses are short party dresses, all the same style, but each a different color. The wedding party will be wearing leis, and the guests will have them on their table to wear. On the invitations I will inform the guests to wear Hawaiian apparel, and/or casual dresses. Is this too laid-back?? Too laid-back that it may offend someone?? Opinions please.
**we are having a bartender, so there will definitely be other options for drinks, plus we’ll have the traditional soft drinks, tea, water, etc.
**we are planning on having other foods as well including wings, chicken tenders, some more finger foods. plus, pineapple pizza, to add to the Hawaiian theme :)

Susan answers:

Hun if someone got offended cause the way you had your wedding well they are just really board people that dont have a life of there own! ITS YOUR WEDDING!!!! DO WHAT YOU WANT!!!! IT SOUNDS LIKE A BLAST!!!

IF YOU WANTED A DIFFERENT FOOD IDEA JUST LOOK UP HAWAI FOOD RECIPES

Nancy asks…

how am i suppose to tone down a place that is completely red?

my wedding reception will be held at a chinese restaurant and that place is completely red! The chairs, linen table cloths, and even the walls are red. I do not know what colors to use to tone down the place. I do not want it to look so asianize (if that is even a word). I like it to look more elegant. What can i use as my centerpiece for the tables? How can i decorate it? HELP

Susan answers:

Use white, table cloths, napkins, plates everything, if you can pruchase white sheer material and have it drape across the walls and enrty way and maybe even run white christmas lights behind it. And use white wide ribbon and tie bos around the backs of the chairs. That would look really elegant i woul think and not have it look like you killed something. Ha Ha. But try the white especially with the light behind it. That would look really nice. Make the entry way the focal point both on the outside and inside. There are places that you can rent white trellis arch ways and that kind of stuff like pillars and as for flowers i would do white cala lillies and another flower of your wedding colors. Good Luck

Sandra asks…

What are some good wedding-type centerpiece ideas?

I am looking for ideas for centerpieces or table dividers for a social function I am planning. I need roughly 50 of them and I need them to be inexpensive. They have to be tall/wide enough to provide the illusion of privacy. The color scheme for the event is open so far, but I would like to go with something classic – something elegant. I don’t want it to be too flashy or girly.

Susan answers:

We did really tall vases with flowers on the top so the people can see each other across the table. The table numbers we got from Michael’s – those brown craft number things and then we poked wooden dowels through the bottom and glued glitter on them. See pics:

I am not sure if this is what you are looking for – not sure what you mean by illusion of privacy or how you’re using the centerpieces. Sorry if I’m way off :)

Your Questions About Elegant Centerpieces For Tables

Wednesday Jan 25, 2012

Donna asks…

Fish for Thanksgiving?

I normally grill a large salmon fillet, because we don’t eat turkey, beef, etc. I am looking for suggestions for another type of fish that would be classy and elegant to serve for Thanksgiving and look great as our table centerpiece.

Susan answers:

Go for what they ate at the first thanksgiving. Salmon was not in this area at that time, and so they wouldn’t have eaten that. Go for trout, but make sure it’s brook or channel catfish, or bass. Good Luck!

Betty asks…

Has anyone used these linen like disposable chair covers?

I am getting married and am on a very tight budget. So far, it has been working okay. For one, we are getting married at our church so the site is free and special to us! However, the banquet hall is nice, but not exactly the elegant thing I was going for. So, I am planning on doing a “tent ceiling” with tulle and christmas lights, lowering the lighting for a romantic feel, (thank goodness the room has adjustable lighting!), and putting rose centerpieces on the tables. We did a test run and I was expecting the low lighting to take away from the fact that my chairs were brown metal folding chairs but it didn’t! I want my guests to be impressed when they first walk in, not see those chairs! SO, I found these really cheap: http://www.koyalwholesale.com/pages-productinfo-category-685_903-product-6633/chair-covers-sashes-and-table-linens-chair-covers-and-slips-disposable-chair-covers-w-bow-folding-chairs-96-pcs-bulk-2-colors.html

But I don’t know if they will work or not. Has anyone had experience with this?

I already checked into renting covers, and it was too expensive. This is a couple hundred dollars cheaper that I can maybe squeeze in.

Thank you!

Susan answers:

Hi Marci:

I must agree with fizzy stuff and Joanie.

I read this once and it’s true……when you first ENTER the room and the chairs have covers it does look nice, but once everyone is seated, it really doesn’t matter! Just like Joanie said.

Also, with this not being actual linen, I don’t know. I am a little concerned with what this material is. It says it is “tear resistant” and really it reminds me of material that you wrap your house with before it’s sided….called “Tyvek.” I don’t know if you know what I am referring to….but it is a type of paper as described in that description and it is NOISY!

I really think it would be best to just leave the chairs as they are. Really, I have been to LOTS and LOTS of weddings and these things are not noticed at all by the guests (chair covers.)

Sandy asks…

Centerpiece Help? Thanks?

Option 1: Available from the venue directly at no cost : Mirrored circle with two tea lights, elegant and classy

Option 2: Diy to add a touch of whimsy, light up centerpieces, would be done in PURPLES NOT BLUE http://offbeatbride.com/2009/01/diy-ornament-bouquet#more-1529

Option 3: Potted Orchids, alternating white and purple at tables

Option 4: Your suggestions :)

I like alternative centerpieces, I am not a fan of flower boquet centerpieces, I think they are gorgeous but they don’t last and are over done. Simple floral arrangements are okay like 3 flowers max

Colors: Black, White and Silver with purple accents, decor already decided: favors on silver trays, white lanterns hanging from the ceiling, different sizes in groups of three, black and white photos of us in silver frames.

Thanks for your imput
hydrangeas are going to be my boquet flowers for sure, but our reception is in another province a couple days later

Susan answers:

Hi and congratulations!

I would combine #1 (free) the mirror circle with two tea lights AND #3 – the potted orchids.

Put the potted orchid in the center of the mirror tile with the tea lights on either side.

Sharon asks…

Door Prizes And Potato Centerpieces?

A couple of my friends and I are putting together a “potato” themed party! I need some of you guyz to help me out and get creative! I need some potato centerpieces. But my creative thinking has just gone out the door. Do y’all have any ideas? Also I need some ideas for door prizes! For both men and women. Thanks in advance! :)

Susan answers:

You could put a couple potatoes in bowl and then stick branches in them (with bright colored spray paint on each one and hang ornaments/mr. Potato pieces from them) Or you could get some of the small potatoes (in various colors like purple, red, yellow) and put them in tall glass vases. Or make ‘Potato People’ using buttons for the eyes, straws for arms and legs and magazine cut outs for lips, hair, etc.

For the door prizes, you could do a basket with all things related to potatoes, i.e. Bags of potato chips, frozen bags of french fries, recipes books with potato salad…

Have fun!

Donna asks…

Decorations for a “Rockstar” Sweet 16?

I am throwing a rather large party themed, “Rockstar,” and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas for appropriate decorations, even things I could make on my own (such as centerpieces, wall decorations, etc…)

Thanks !

Susan answers:

Trace little guitars on black paper and tack on walls
have a little “lyrics” book for guests to sign in
have rock mags like rolling stone out
posters of cool band
cds, cassetes on table
if you have equipment, let guests record own music, collaborate
set up beads over doorways
have pen and paper out
have then dress up,
you can set up ash trays for grunge look (probably not best for miley fans)
have a cooler with cokes
set out cushions or make the area look like a tour bus

Get some really nice champagne flutes before the night (and if you want, give them out as party favors so your guests can always remember the night) http://www.gifts.com/search/product/Karin-Grafix-Flutes-Set-of-4-by-Dansk?ideaID=11165&prodID=301241 how about a murder mystery dinner party game http://www.gifts.com/search/product/A-Taste-for-Wine-and-Murder-Dinner-Party-Game?ideaID=9701&prodID=130576 i’m not sure if you’re friends are all the same gender, but if you’re having all your girlfriends over consider this ‘girls night out’ game http://www.gifts.com/search/product/Zobmondo-Board-Game?ideaID=4288&prodID=74397 if you’re having over both male and female friends, then a battle of the sexes game would be fun http://www.gifts.com/search/product/Battle-of-the-Sexes-2nd-Edition-Board-Game?ideaID=9314&prodID=194871 or http://www.gifts.com/search/product/Man-Laws-and-Woman-Rules-Game?ideaID=9314&prodID=226409 i also like this table topics conversation icebreaker http://www.gifts.com/search/product/table-topics-original?ideaID=9990&prodID=109722 (you’ll notice to the right that there is a girls version). Carol asks…

Around the world theme centerpieces?

We are having a party and the theme is ‘around the world’ and we r trying to think of creative centerpieces for tables that don’t cost a whole lot. ideas??

Susan answers:

For a main centerpiece, print out flags and copy them to the size that would fit on long wooden skewers and group them in vases. At intervals on the tables, Get jelly beans and group these in color combinations for different country’s flags in small clear plastic cups. Print out small paper flags and glue around toothpicks to place in the matching cup. For instance, for the US put red white and blue jelly beans in a cup with a toothpick American flag. For Italy, you would use red, white, and green.

Sandra asks…
