Your Questions About Baby Shower Centerpieces For Tables

Sharon asks…

I’M HAVING A BABY SHOWER & WOULD LIKE 2 MAKE CENTERPIECES FOR THE TABLE SO PEOPLE CAN TAKE HOME?

BUT NOW I DON’T WANT THE CENTERPIECE TO BE ALL ABOUT A BABY… JUST SOMETHING EITHER LIKE A FLORAL ARRANGEMENT OR CANDLE… PLZZZZ MAY I HAVE SOME IDEAS.

THANK YOU,

Susan answers:

I knew someone who took clear vases, and painted flowers on them (just simple brush strokes) and they turned out to be really pretty. You can do that and for the flowers, buy fake ones and put those glass aquarium beads in the bottom of the vase with the flowers, in the colors of your choosing. And from a party store, they have little decorations, like tiny pacifiers you can use to tie on the end of ribbons, which you can tie the ribbon around the flowers. Hope this helps!

Donna asks…

Dr. Suess Table Theme Decoration help for a baby shower?

I have five tables for a baby shower that is a Dr. Suess theme. I need to figure out cool centerpieces and possible other decorations to sell the theme at each table. The themes for the five are Horton Hears a Who, Green Eggs and Ham, Red fish, Blue Fish, Oh, The Places You’ll Go, and The Cat in the Hat….Any ideas for centerpieces or helpful links to tutorials or pictures?? I would greatly appreciate it.

Susan answers:

Do a small diaper cake and put the book on top of each cake. Then maybe open the book a little bit and put a cute bud vase with a little flower or rose in each one. You could match the ribbon around the diaper cake to the book and if you have a ton of time, even buy scrapbooking materials or little stickers that go with each theme (or just stick to the baby them around the diaper cakes). You can make your own confetti to match each table and then you’ll have individual cute, colorful tables. Also, the mom-to-be then can take all the diapers cakes and the books home for her little one to keep and treasure knowing it was from the baby shower. Have fun!

Jenny asks…

Creative baby shower ideas to do with diapers?

My best friend is having a baby shower (boy) I normally make diaper cakes, but this time I made her a diaper tricycle. I have quite a few diaper that were given to me as a gift (they are cheapie safeway brand ones and the sides are purple) I would like to find some way to use them as a decoration for the shower. I don’t think there will be tables to put centerpieces on. Any other ideas? Thanks!
no diaper cakes, please read the question. and no games please. we already have the games

Susan answers:

You can donate them to a shelter. Or make another gift for your friend, a gift basket with things like baby wipes, diaper rash cream, grooming kit, emergency kit and just throw in the leftover diapers.

If you guys can help with some ideas as names ?
I thought of j & j mommy designs. Both our names start with j

Susan answers:

How about something with both your names in it. It’s easier to relate to than some
E abstract name , just for the sake of it.

Susan answers:

You could try to put one of those weights in them and attach balloons to them
or
you could try little plants something not to flowery but not to much like just leaves that are cheap to put in the cups to go with the jungle theme just dont get ones that will hang over the cup that way you can still see the cup
or
do the plant thing and maybe put like little toy monkeys or lions something like that just on the table around the cup too

Your Questions About Ideas For Baby Shower Centerpieces For Tables

Thursday Feb 2, 2012

Betty asks…

Any baby shower ideas? ?

My best friend aka (Sister-4-Life) is having a baby due in April…she’s a teen mother, and we as her bestest friends are planning to give her a “surprise” baby shower. However we need more ideas…I have few planned here they are…
1. Select a theme for the shower….she likes Bratz and she is 15…..
2. Create your own decorations. place a framed photo of the parents-to-be on the gift table for a personal touch. Be sure to provide the mother-to-be with her own special chair next to the gifts and mark it by tying Balloons at the entrance.
4.Make a memorable centerpiece, Diaper cake or A stuffed animal in a basket with baby stuff surrounding it.
5.Decide on the menu. It can simply be cake and punch, chicken wings, Finger foods, sandwiches, fruit or fresh vegetable tray, Nachos and dip, chips n dip, assorted cubed cheeses and crackers, chicken salad, cookies, deviled egges. pasta salad.
6.Plan a variety of games: Some more active games are “Baby Hot Potato” where you pass a baby doll around a circle while you play a lullaby. Whoever is holding the baby when the music stops is out. Keep going until one person is left. Or “Diaper a Doll while Blind-folded.” All you need is a doll, a diaper and safety pins and a dark blind-fold. “Baby Bottle Drink-off” is a hilarious game.”
7.Gift Ideas for the mommy-to-be a thermometer, pacifiers, bottle, formula, liners (depending on the bottles preferred by mom), nail clipper kit, washcloths, hair brush and comb, travel bag dispenser that gives you a small bag to put dirty diapers into, a new outfit, burp cloth, nasal aspirator, a few diapers, and wipes. Johnson&Johnson also makes a take along pack that has travel size sampling of shampoo, desitin, lotion, powder, baby wash, and a soothing naturals nourishing lotion. Photo Album.
Make a coupon book good for:
•Whenever you need a baby sitter
•1 afternoon babysitting

•1 evening babysitting

•1 afternoon of errand-running
Baby tree- Make something that could hold money for the new born baby

What do you all think, are there anymore ideas for the theme, food, decorations, and how to set it up well for the surprise. I was thinking of holding it at our school in the commons area. Over by that way its a cafeteria where she can go and she will not see anything. That way they can make their way down that trail and then she will open her eyes and see what we have planned.

Susan answers:

I like baby animal themes – then there is a lot of room for you to make your own games, decorations. There is also a guessing game where everyone guesses how big around they think the mother-to-be is at the largest part of her belly. I’m giving you a link below that has lots more baby shower ideas (even recipes for food and stuff).

Mary asks…

Baby boy shower for a wonderful coworker. In charge of supplying candy for each table. Want to go all blue.?

Any ideas for all blue candy? Thought about adding blue candy to a trail mix. What are some blue candies. Also, any ideas on how I could somehow make the candy a centerpiece?

Susan answers:

Here ya go – so you dont have to pick out the blues out of every candy!! Lol Good luck! =)

Donna asks…

Need a suggestion for my duck babyshower?

I am having a duck themed baby shower, and I have a duck cookie cutter. I was trying to think of some kind of main food dish that I can shape as ducks? Also does anyone have any cute duck centerpiece ideaS? I am going to have about ten tables

Susan answers:

I’m also having a ducky themed baby shower at the end of March. When you said you have a duck cookie cutter I thought it’d be cute if you made little finger sandwiches and used the cookie cutter to make them look like ducks. If you’re special ordering a cake you can also put little rubber ducks on it or have the place your ordering from put a duck design in the frosting.

As for center piece ideas, what about buying little clear glass bowls and putting little rubber ducks on water so they float around?

If you come up with any really good ideas or get some great suggestions I’d love to hear them! Congrats on your baby!

Your Questions About Flowers For Baby Shower Centerpieces For Tables

Thursday Feb 2, 2012

Mandy asks…

baby shower help…?

ok…so i have this great party planned….looking for help with the centerpieces…the theme is a garden/frog pond type thing…

anyway…for the centerpieces was looking to find silk lily pads and flowers i could float in bowls on the table…

anyone know where i can find some?? been searching on;line, but not quite coming up with anything….
A HA….found some….

thanks for all your help….some of your answers gave me other ideas for places to look…. pet stores – aquarium….that sort of thing…and love the wax idea….

here is what i found in case any one is looking for some fun ones…and cheap!

http://www.save-on-crafts.com/waterlilies1.html

Susan answers:

Have you tried swimming pool supply stores? I was able to purchase floating water lilies that would hold a votive candle and glass for my pool. The lilies were made of hard plastic. Another trick I have done that worked is to coat the underside of a silk leaf with candle wax. You just light the candle and let it drip on to the bottom side of the leaf. Once the wax cools it will form a coating on the silk leaf. It acts to keep the water out and will cause the leaf to float. Plain paraffin will also work.

I found a few sources online.

Lizzie asks…

Florist rip off, have you heard of this?

So we called a florist today for one of my friends who is having a very small wedding Feb 2nd. We wanted to set up delivery and make sure it is there by the set up time. She is having a very small wedding of only 48 total guests. Well the centerpieces she wanted were just simple rose bouquets in square glass short vases that are sold at the local florist. She picked them out on their web site. Since they are not having an over the top wedding, just low key with minimal decorations other than the colored linens and such she thought this would be the least expensive. Well on the web site they are $39.99 each plus delivery charges. So she called in and told them that she needed six of these for her six tables. The lady asked her what the occasion was and she told her a wedding reception. Ok fine, when she gets the total it was way off. It ends up they are charging $59.99 per bouquet NOT including the tax or delivery charge…instead of the $39.99 because it is for a wedding and they have a surcharge on weddings. WHAT?? They are being delivered only, not set up, nothing special, they are not part of the wedding flower section, just basic 12 red roses in a clear square vase that is listed at 39.99. How can they charge $20 more for each just because it was a wedding. And then she would have to pay the tax and delivery on top of the $20 extra per item. What is that. She cancelled the order and told the lady that was absurd. We ended up calling another florist that sells the same thing and told them we would pick them up, they are for a baby shower. Why are they only $39.99 now. How can they do that just for a wedding even though they are doing absolutely nothing extra?

Susan answers:

I can believe that…Being that Weddings are one of the biggest occasions that florist are asked to do they will do anything to get an extra amount of money….Although you are not doing the “delivery and set-up”, the quantity for the wedding is what they are charging you for…and acourse a baby shower is not something they will care about…it is ridiculous yet some florist will do what they can to get that off the top of money…so be careful with some vendors….you did the right thing to cancel it and not to get sucked into their scam…

Jenny asks…

baby shower………?

i’m having a very nice baby shower at a country club with with nice silk blue linens( im havn a boy) the cake is going to be baby blocks but my mom and i were thinking of doing white flowers on the tables? or does anyone know of anything nice we could do for a centerpiece? (no cake things though)17 wk 3 days
I’m not having my shower until end of may we have alot of people who are invited so we are planning now.I know i’m not suppose to be involved but my parents are paying and im a control decor freak so this is my first and last baby shower need to be perfect

Susan answers:

I think it would be neat to have the centerpieces double as favors for guests. Like these mini flower pots:

it also shares a “growing” experience with your guests!

Your Questions About Do Sunflowers Come Back

Laura asks…

URGENT Gerbil Diarrhea Wet Tail Problem… Can you please help?

***You can skip down to the next part below with the
asterisks***

Ok, so, I just came back, and found that in my gerbils’ litter box, there was abnormal poop. It seemed mushy and had VERY little red liquid (blood, most likely) and urine. There are 8 gerbils in the home. 3 are 5-week old pups, 3 more are 1-week old pups, and there is one mother gerbil, about 5 months old. Keep in mind that there is another cage nearby with the father.
We cleaned the cage out yesterday, and starting yesterday, my mom put oats in their fooddish. We gave the mother about 2-4 sunflower seeds.
I checked their bottoms, and the mom is the only one that has a brownish anus. She has the illness I think.

******
Now, my problem is that it is 9:00 PM over here, small animal hospitals are either closed sunday, or close at noon at sunday. All Petco’s , Petsmart’s, and Petland’s are closed.***

I’ve heard that wet tail can kill in 24 hrs. Is it wet tail? If it is, what can I do about it?
I Do not ave dri-tail with me, or any gerbil / pet meds at all.
The closest I have to medicine is:
**kefir
**plain yogurt
**oats
bananas (helps with human diarrhea)
eye dropper
**infant medicine syringe
water
cheerios

Susan answers:

No, it is not Wet Tail. Only syrian hamsters can get the disease called “Wet tail”. What your gerbil has is diarrhea, which could be caused by any number of things. But it is not “Wet tail”.

Also, Dri tail is a terrible product to use on small animals. Most of the time, it actually makes things worse. Do not use it.

Diarrhea in gerbils can be caused by eating too much fresh fruits and veggies. But it can also be one of the first signs of Tyzzer’s disease, which can be deadly. You need to get her to the vet when they open in the morning.

http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?cls=18&cat=1803&articleid=2846

Edit: Tonight, the best thing you can do is separate her from the others and completely sanitize their cage. Tyzzer’s is spread through contact with the infected animals feces, so the other ones could catch it too. Make sure they all have plenty of water, a clean cage, and a proper diet. Please try to keep them from stressing.

Sharon asks…

What could be the meaning of my dream?

So last night I had a weird dream. This might be kinda long, so bear with me :)

Ok…first, I was at a grocery store (not sure what store) with my mom, my sister, and the guy I like (let’s call him “K”…). So “K” said he was going into the back of the store for some reason, and then he left for a while. My mom bought all sorts of unhealthy food (popsicles, candy bars, ice cream, etc.) and the price for everything was $30. So later, when we were leaving, I got in the car with my mom and sister, then I was like “omg I totally forgot; ‘K’ is in the back of the store! He must have fallen asleep!” So we got out of the car and as I was walking to go get him, he was coming towards me out of the store. I touched his arm and he looked at me, then we all got in the car. I sat in the back seat, and my mom was driving with my sister in the front passenger seat, with ‘K’ between them (I guess there was a seat there?). Later, when I looked back, my sister was driving, K was in the passenger seat, and my mom was in the middle. As we approached my house, my sister was in the back seat next to me, and I was sitting right behind ‘K’, who was still in the passenger’s seat, with my mom driving. At this time, ‘K’ looked exactly like this other guy I used to like…let’s call him ‘J’. But for some odd reason, ‘J’ was wearing a bikini top with a jacket (in my dream, I automatically thought it was to cover his ‘man boobs’ lol. ‘J’ is kinda chunky, but ‘K’ isn’t fat at all.) My mom leaned over and hugged him, and I got jealous. Now, while it looked like ‘J’, the whole time I knew he was actually ‘K’….I know, it’s weird. So we got to my house, and ‘J’ turned back into ‘K’. He pointed to part of my house and said “what’s that?” and I told him that was my room, and my hamster’s cage was in there. Later I took him into my room, which looked nothing like my room does, and I took my hamster out of her cage. ‘K’ asked for a bit of hamster food so he could feed her, so I got some pieces of corn and some sunflower seeds and gave him ALOT (so much, that he dropped most of the food) and I had the rest of the food in my cheeks. It was really strange! I went to go spit out the food in the trash can, and was worried (while I was gone) that he would find out that my sister wet the bed. When I came back, he said “your mom wants your sister to make sure the room doesn’t smell.” Anyway, the dream sort of died off there, but it was really odd…
Does anybody have any idea what my dream might mean? Even a “translation” of just one thing would help me….it’s just so strange.
Thanks in advance! I’m totally baffled…lol
some extra things:
-My mom has never met either guy
-I used to like ‘J’, but not anymore (I think I liked him for about 2 weeks)
-’K’ is a very sweet guy, and I know both of my parents would approve of him if they met him :)

Thank’s for the great answers so far!

Susan answers:

It sounds like you’re trying to figure out where “K” fits in.

You forgot about him to start off with. Then the musical chairs scenario in the car seems to be all about whether your family members will accept him. You compare him to your “J,” which tells me one of two things: either you’re comparing how much you like one compared to the other, or you’re comparing how much your mother would like one compared to the other. (Your mother’s hug was misinterpreted by you; it was a form of affection, approval, acceptance.) Maybe your mother approved of “J” and you’re worried if she’ll like “K” just as well. Then “K” wants to get to know you better by asking about your room. Your room is a symbol of your true identity. You did eventually allow him to get to know you by bringing him into your sanctuary, but you still tried to hide things from him, like the fact that your sister wet the bed.

So do you really like “K” or not? Are you afraid of him getting to know you too well? Of not liking you back? Are you afraid that your family won’t like him? Where does he fit?

Maria asks…

Why does my gerbil keep biting?

I bought him a couple days ago. he bit me on day one when trying to move him from the transport box to his cage (which I can understand) The day before yesterday I would be putting sunflower seeds in my hand and he would crawl on to it and grab them. Yesterday I tried putting my fist in the cage, I left it there without moving it slightly for a good while, he kept coming up to it, sniffing it, walking away, then coming back again. Eventually he came, sniffed it, and layed down and slept right underneath it allowing me to pet him and everything.

Today I found out my little nephews were teasing it when I wasn’t looking last night. Now I try putting my fist in there or anything and he digs into it with his fangs to the point where it bleeds pretty bad. All the ground I gained with the little guy is lost now. Can I get him back to being tame like he was or did the teasing cause permanent distrust?
I can safely pet him and I don’t try picking him up, but for some reason he keeps sniffing my hand a bit and then starts chewing on it. Something else I just realized, I had just gotten through eating a bunch of tortilla chips with the hand he was biting. Could that explain it?

Susan answers:

First off, keep the hamster AWAY from your nephews from now on. They are obviously not mature enough to understand NOT to tease an animal. Explain this to them if they ask why they can’t see the hamster anymore. Find a place that they won’t find it, and place him there. Second, yes, he will be able to trust you again. Now, because of your nephews, it will be a long road getting him to trust you again. You will need to go very slow with him. Calmly talk to him every day. Try to make contact with him every day for a week. Don’t pick him up, just hand him food, lightly pet him, but don’t pick him up. After a week, lay your hand in the cage after washing it with a treat in the middle of it. If he crawls up there, he gets the treat, if he bites you, he doesn’t. Eventually he will let you handle him, and your trust will be regained. Just, DON’T let your nephews get a hold of him again. I hope your hamster experience will be a happy one! :)
