Donna asks…

Common Question…Does He Like Me?

Long story short. I like my neighbor, but Im not sure if he likes me. He texts me and I see him almost every day. When he talks to me he looks diretctly into my eyes, and I catch him staring all the time. Just the other day he texts me and asked what I was doing. I said I was bored, and that I was outside by myself, and he replied back, By yourself? Do you want some company?? Then I was like Yes I Do. So he came over. And this was like at 9:30 at night. Then tonight he comes over, and me my brother and him go to get some food, then we come home, and he takes a bunch of my sunflower seeds… Some how that leads to him saying that I could go over to his house. He even offered to let me use his spare bedroom at his house because I have family in town, and I have to sleep on the floor. Hes always saying things like “I know you want to hold my hand” and “I know you miss me when Im not here.”

Like I said I just want to know what everyone thinks. Does He like me??

Susan answers:

Duh! I wish I had such strong signals from the guy I’m interested in!

Anybody who wonders what you’re doing at 9:30 pm is interested in you. Case closed.

Lisa asks…

Tiel, with cyst, advice please!!?

My tiel has been back an forth to the vet, been on antibiotics for over 6 weeks and finally the vet offered and needle aspiration and got a diagnosis of an epithelial cyst. it is above his eye and does now obscure his vision. Is this a feather cyst? Could it be from his sinus? He was originally diagnosed with Chlamydia psittaci, which is a very real possibility since he has done the course of his antibiotics the lump grew and changed colour. It has been up and down beforehand.
He has been battling on like a trooper for the last few weeks. He has now dropped body weight, only eating sunflower seeds. Doesn’t want to eat fruit or anything else really.
I don’t particularily want to change his food at this stage as he is in a weakened state. He really isn’t interested in anything but sunflowers. whether that is because that is all he cant distinguish, he is just being picky, or he knows that they are fatty.. not sure. He flicks his seed around to try to find them.
Firstly can i have some different suggestions on your parrots fav fruit or veg so i can give him an assortment to get him eating more, and give him some much need vitamins. Any known fruit or veg high in Vit A as this may also be a cause.
Secondly, my only option for treatment is to have the cyst removed surgically. My obvious fear is the anaesthetic firstly because he is a bird and secondly he isn’t well. My only other option is for him to go to sleep :_(
I don’t want to be cruel, but he has come this far and kept battling away. If you have has experience with birds in surgery or just some positive vibes would be helpful.. He is only young and one of my much loved feather babies..
Cheers

Susan answers:

Sorry to hear your bird is in such a bad way,but having the cyst removed surgically is a dangerous operation, not removing the cyst but the anaesthetic,is the most dangerous part of the operation.

So I would think long and hard as your bird is not now in good condition and this is when the anaesthetic would cause the most harm.(possibly death)

Try giving your bird a little piece of Broccoli, lots of birds will take this when feeling out of sorts.

Someone mentions they have had a number of operations and they are OK, this would not be the same for a bird having an operation , you can not give a Cockatiel artificial Respiration,so I do not know why they have this flippant attitude to some ones problems.

As I have already said I would not risk your bird with an operation at this time.and I do not believe your vet would carry out an operation

Note I have never known of Chlamydia in birds.

Maria asks…

A Question About my Rattie?

I have an about 9 or 12 week old rat and she used to come out and play around her cage and when I called her she would come to the cage door she would greet me in the morning and rush out when she heard the bag of sunflower seeds but now she sleeps till like 4 then is up for maybe half an hour then go back to sleep and if i call her she doesn’t come out and she doesn’t come when a bag is crinkled or anything. I’m really paranoid when it comes to my pets and I’m worried about her. Tomorrow I’m getting her a friend because I think she might be lonely (even though I talk to her all the time and hold her, so does my mom) has this happened to your rats? What should I do? Will she get better once she has someone to play with.
She also used to jump and run around her cage very happily and doesn’t anymore.

Susan answers:

Rats are very social animals so another rat might be an idea especially if you dont have the time to have them out for 2-3 hours a night. I had a rat that would sulk if i didnt have her out for at least that amount of time and if i ever went on holiday she would refuse to eat, even when my parents would have her out for hours a day.

However! It wont be as simple as going here you are a new friend! Ive introduced afew new rats into my rat colonies, it involves days and weeks of work. You need to start by having two cages and having them close so they can smell but not see each other, have a shirt that you play and hold each rat in and then take that over to the next rat when you play with them, this will help spread the smells onto each other and onto you. Then let them see each other through the bars, you will normally get a good idea if any of the rats are going to be aggressive. The next step is to find a neutral and safe place for both rats to meet. Ive found that the bath as a nice safe place where you can easily grab a rat if they dont get on. Depending on how this goes this will need repeating for the first time up to about 15-20 mins will be enough, as you dont want to stress any of them out, they will probably be very interested in each others smell, this is where the work with the shirt of towel comes in because they should smell alittle bit like each other. I normally repeat this afew times making this time fun, so get some toys out pick them up lots of fussing just letting them get on and explore together. I find that the next step is to allow the older rat to explore the other rats cage, with the door open so either rat can escape to you if feel threatened. Again if this is going well you may want to shut the door. Repeat this again making this fun and interesting for them. When you feel happy leave the rats together, i normally leave them together when both rats start settling down to sleep especially if they curl up together. I have also spent the night sleeping next to the cage when ive introduced rats into my colony, however, ive never had to break up any fights between them so this really isnt needed just something i do.

Be aware that they may fall out and fight over ddominancemore than two sisters, Please, do not let this put you off getting another rat, they work you put is worth it! And alot of the work you would need to be doing in training a new baby rat. But once you have sorted it you will find that your playfull little girl will come back and you will have two bundles of joy!

Good luck!

Your Questions About New Sunflower

Saturday Feb 18, 2012

Susan asks…

what to do once a dwarf sunflower’s head dies?

ok i know this sounds stupid but what do i do?

I’ve looked at the plant hoping for the seeds to come as we’d like to plant them next year and i see what looks like buds for new heads. Do I just take off the dead head and allow the new head to grow or do i just collect the seeds (when ever they are ready) and just bin the sunflower? I bought it as a gift to my mum who has had a real hard time lately in both work life and home life and so thought it’d cheer her up… but we’ve never had sunflowers before so we have NO CLUE what we’re doing hahaha!!! kinda messed that one up didn’t i haha!!

anyway any advice would be a big help

thanks ^_^

oh and FYI the head has been dead for a good month or so now lol!!

Susan answers:

The seeds will develop in the middle part of the bloom. If you want to collect the seeds, you have to wait until the seeds in the middle of that bloom have fully formed and be DRY before you collect them. When you have collected the DRY seeds, you can either plant them in the Fall in the place you want them, or wait until the Spring. If you wait, the seeds must be stored in a DRY environment. If you put them in a plastic plastic zip-lock baggie that there is any moisture at all, the seeds will rot. As you can see, the key word here is DRY.

Betty asks…

How would I go about finding a field of sunflowers?

I live in South New Jersey, pretty close to Philadelphia, and I am determined to find a field of sunflowers.
Does anyone know the location of one in the New Jersey area?
Or how would I go about finding one?

Thank you!

Susan answers:

Here you go – the sunflower field in New Jersey that stops traffic! They’re at their peak right now.

The most beautiful flower of all – (=

Mary asks…

can sunflower buds regrow?

i had been putting cayenne pepper on my sunflowers but the rain washed it off and the pesky squirrels ate all the buds is there anyway the can have new growth? or should i just give up on the sunflowers

Susan answers:

There’s quite a range of sunflowers that have been bred, including dwarfs, multi-branched plants and the more traditional single stemmed type. If your plants are more single stemmed plants then they will often have several flowers, often with one central main flower, that develops before the others.

For this reason I’d leave your plants in place, and feed and water them well, so that they can continue to grow. As they’re not putting energy into developing that 1st flower bud that was eaten, this does leave their energy available to make new buds. As long as the squirrels didn’t touch the rest of the plant, then they should still be able to delight you with some flowers. The flowers may not be quite as large as the 1st central flower may have been, but you’ll at least get rewarded for your efforts.

It’s still potentially possible to get some new plants from seed too, so you may want to supplement the current plants with some additional new ones. This partly depends on where you’re located, your growing season, as well as the variety you have chosen.

So far I’ve been lucky with squirrels this year – they’ve only run along the fence and not caused any damage – if mine complete it to flowering, I’ll think of you and send some sunshine over.

Hope this helps. Good luck! Rob

Carol asks…

How do I take the keys off my keyboard?

I have a bunch of stuff underneath them, and I know they come off because I have dropped my keyboard and they come off and its real easy to get them back on. How do I take them off though? Don’t say I can’t and don’t say it’s hard or whatever. I need to know how. I have sunflower seed shells and stuff under it and it makes the keys stuck sometimes. lol. Don’t ask how they got in there, idk.
Lol its not that easy. idk why it seems real hard. Maybe I’m weak. lol

It’s a Dell keyboard if that makes a difference…

Susan answers:

Take your index and thumb finger and stick it on the ends and pull. They pop right off on my computer. It is really easy.

Lizzie asks…

why did this squirrel attack me?

i was at the park today and came upon some squirrels. i decided to feed them, after i’ve thrown like 5 sunflower feeds, the whole group came out (like 10) and started advacing towards me so i threw some far away hoping they would go after it. but 2 of these things jumped on me (i was standing) trying to scatrach me. i was like o f*k! i shook them off, dropped the bag of sunflower seeds and ran the hell out.

why would they attack someone who was trying to feed them? next time i go back i’ll bring some rocks

Susan answers:

Were your nuts showing?

Laura asks…

What should I do with a wild mouse?

Hi guys, yesterday my cat brought in a wild mouse by its mouth. Luckily I quickly rescued it and it ran into the downstairs cupboard. It was only tiny so is probably a baby mouse. I put down a few sunflower seeds but they don’t seem to be eaten. I cannot find the mouse though and I think that it is hiding under the freezer. Could it be dead? I just put down a saucer of water and a few more sunflower seeds today and will wait to see if anything has gone. But if it is alive how do I get it back into the garden where it came from? It must be in big shock because it is just a baby, is there anything else I can do to maybe make it feel more safe?
Please help me
Thanks

Susan answers:

First get it and you can either keep it as a pet or get rid of it don’t let your cat in the room where you saw it last if your not in there.
Just put your cat in there and see where it goes if it wants he mouse the cat should bring you right to it use gloves and get the mouse and do what ever you’ll like but I would keep it so that my cat couldn’t kill it and look on google saying like wild mice what do they eat I will look now

Don’t get a trap for the mouse it will kill it
go to like

Give it like carrots and seeds it wasn’t atig most likely because it was scared and I don’t think they eat much.

Your Questions About Do Sunflowers Come Back

Friday Feb 17, 2012

Maria asks…

I think I have a sliver in my gums from sunflower seeds. How do I get it out?

I noticed it after eating a couple handfuls of sunflower seeds. It is in the upper back left of my gums, in the cheek side where I store the seeds before I eat them. It isn’t big, but I can feel it underneath my gums with my finger or tongue. I am wondering if I have to go to the dentist to get it out or if it will come out by itself. I know that the mouth is one of the fastest healing parts of the body and it feels like the gum healed over the sliver and the only way to get it out is to reopen the gum. I’d rather not go to the dentist just to do something so simple, but if I have to worry about infection or whatever I’ll go (obviously). I’ve scratched at it with my fingernail a couple times just to see if I can get it out myself, but the little bugger won’t come out. Any advice will help, thanks!

Susan answers:

Maybe try really strong bursts of water. A syringe can squirt water. Or try with your tooth brush bristles. The bristles can usually go underneath your gum so you can try that. Best of luck.

Lisa asks…

About my twins again.Thnx to everyone who answered. This Q is for a response from Sunflower?

Hi sunflower! I am from India. Thanks for anwering my question. U have written that there are other sets of twins in ur family. Can u tell me if putting them in seperate class rooms in school really helps because, right now they r in Pre-school and when i tried putting them in seperate classes,my daughter was alright about it but my son felt the trauma of seperation. it became so bad for him that i had to put them back together. But by that time my daughter had made a place for herself in her class and was her teachers pet. So she recented her brother coming and sharing that. Now she is not as outgoing as she used to be.,but my son is enjoying school.Plus now they are having stranger anxiety. And in India the kids have to go for admissions to teh bigger school when they are three and a half which is about now. It will become a problem at the admission test if they refuse to answer! How do i deal with this?

Susan answers:

I have 2 sets of fraternal twins – my older set are boys – my younger set are girls – with my boys it was a no brainer. They were / are so different that I just automatically put them in seperate classes.

My girls on the other hand were extremely close. I put them in the same class in pre-K. When they started “big girl” school I left the choice up to them. They wanted to be in the same class. I went to the principal of the school and she was OK with it. When they hit the 3rd grade they decided that they wanted to “try” seperate classes but they wanted to be able to check up on each other during the day. They also wanted to be able to sit with each other at lunch.

Thankfully we live in a small enough town that the school was OK with that decision.

Sounds to me like your children need that seperation. Your daughter seems to thrive better when her brother isn’t around. Overall it is your choice. You know your children better than anyone else.

Sandy asks…

does my hamser have wet tail?

i just got my hamster on Wednesday and it is now Saturday when we first got him he would run all day and night non stop then on Friday he just stopped being active and sleeps in his bed( a large cup ) all day and night he still come out for water and only eats sunflower seeds… he gets a little skittish and runs away when i try and pick him up but he will let me pet him.. he pooped green once but when it dried it went back to black.. but he has this food that is a long green stick that he enjoys eating( from the pet store) witch could be the reason… today i noticed that his bum seemed a little dirty and there was shavings stuck to it so i cant tell how bad it is and he wont let me pick him up to see… does he have wet tail and what should i do?

Susan answers:

He does have some symptoms of wet tail, is he still drinking his water ? If you are worried you should by some medication called “Dri-Tail”. Stress is why many hamsters that are sold by pet stores commonly have the infection. The reason behind this is that most pet stores have animals shipped to the store. The shipping causes the animals stress, plus the added factor of being in a new environment. Thus the animals will have wet-tail because of it. You may have purchased an animal with wet-tail and not realized it. Also, many pet stores sell young animals which are most prone to this infection. Since he is a new hamster, his is another sign that he may have wet tail.

The first symptom that you may notice is diarrhea. The hamster’s fur will also be caked with its own feces. The hamster may not be as active as usual. Keep in mind that hamsters are nocturnal so if you feel they are sleeping a lot during the day, this could be completely normal. The hamster may also have an odor to them. The hamster will not be interested in food and may drink very little water. You can take the animal to a veterinarian, but most people do not take this measure. There is a medication that you can buy at a pet store called Dri-tail. You can put this medication in the water bottle and also you can medicate the animal directly. It is suggested the you do both in animals that appear extremely weak and have had several bouts of diarrhea. You can also hydrate the animal orally with an eyedropper with some water or Pedalled.

Your Questions About New Sunflower

Thursday Feb 16, 2012

Carol asks…

I have a question about my new hamster?

I got a dwarf hamster. and i was reading a book about them and it said to feed your hamster at the same time everyday. My dwarf hamster just has a food bowl filled with food so it can eat anytime. Should I keep it this way or listen to the book????

I feed him Hazel hamster food plus Raw Natural Sunflower seeds UNSALTED no sugar.

Susan answers:

Keep doing what you’re doing. Syrians eat about a tablespoon a day and the same with dwarf hammies because they have a higher metabolism. However this amount can vary day by day so it is necessary that your hammy has his food bowl filled at all times. Hamsters will not overeat. Like mentioned before, discard the uneaten food once a week. I do this when i clean my hammy’s cage every week. And fill his food dish up with fresh feed. Hamsters dont actually sleep all through the day, they get up about every 2 hours to grab a bite to eat, usually whats already stored in their nest. So they tend to eat throughout the day and night, constantly hoarding their food and adding to their “stash”.

Laura asks…

New neighbours gift?

my family and i just moved to a new neighberhood and one of the neigboors gave us a sunflower and a lil card as a gift(they lefted on te door) and this has never happen to us,no neighber has ever gave us gifts so i was wondring how do we thank them? do u go personaly (the whole family) and intruduce ourselfs and say thanks or do we give them something back?

Susan answers:

I would go over to thank & introduce yourself. Once you get settled in to your new place & if you actually like your neighbor invite them over for some burgers or something informal.

Mary asks…

Plants and Veggies with frost coming tonight….what to do?

I have the following plants and veggies outside planted already what is the best protection for one night of frost…tomato, peppers, broccoli, clematis, verbinia, snapdragons, new seedlings sunflowers coming up, gladioli’s. I can’t believe this it was just 80 and 90 degress last week. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Susan answers:

Cover tomatoes, peppers, verbena, gladiolus and sunflowers with a cloth–like a sheet or old pillowcase. The broccoli and clematis should survive. Tomatoes and peppers will need to be well-covered since they are the most tender.

Your Questions About Do Sunflowers Come Back

Laura asks…

opinions on my book idea?

this is the opening sequence for a novel im thinking of writing..

besides pointing out the minor typographical and grammar errors (which is welcome0 what do you think?

Emma was running, not from anything in particular mind you, as she usually was, but at the moment she was running purely for recreation. Before she had come to The Estate, Emma had been on a track scholarship for her university. That was the past though, a far and distinct memory. Painful nostalgia.

Her worn gray sneakers smacked against the cobblestone path, she could feel the vibrations on the heels of her feet. Breaths came in rhythmic but deep pulls as her speed increased as Emma prepared to take the upcoming hill. He long, curly, scarlet hair was pulled into a neat pony tail, it bounced playfully as she ran. She wore black running shorts and a sunflower yellow tank top..which clung to her body, bounded by her preparation.

Suddenly, Emma’s knee gave out, she yelped with a mixture of pain and surprise as her feet tangled beneath her and sent her flying off the path and into the brush.

She lay there, for a moment, teeth clenched in pain. Her head had smacked into a portion of the metal black fence that surrounded the mansion and grounds. When this came to Emma’s comprehension she jerked back- horrified but also intrigued. She twisted her body to glance over her shoulder. Yup she was definitely over the line.

The line was actually a beam of light, a blue beam of light projected around the perimeter of the entire grounds. It was a laser sensor. It sent a high pitched, ear shattering alert, if someone dare cross into the small valley between the fence and the path.

Pressing her hand to the top of her head, Emma discovered she was bleeding. She suspected she’d be bleeding a lot more soon, as she was caught beyond bounds.

Last time she’d gone over the line, it had been on purpose. She had walked right over to the fence, aggrogent in her newness. No sooner then her foot had touched the ground, a sonic screeched had filled the air, sinking Emma to her knees in the dirt. Hands clamped tight over her ears, she hadn’t even seen Vaynar come on her.
He’d gathered a fistful of her long hair in his large hands and pulled her to stand. Emma cried out and shot a pathetic kick the direction of his groin but he simple twisted her body to avoid it. Then he’d drug her all the way to the foyer in this fashion, before dumping her at his feet quite nonchalantly.

The sound had receded but Emma then found herself being kicked, again and again in the knee. it only stopped when she thought she could no longer breath and would pass out from the pain. She stared through the white spots in her vision at Vaynar, who had turned to leave the room.
Angry, she made a bad decision. She shouted at his back, through greeted teeth.

“alot of protection for a fence you swear nothing lies beyond..” of course she regretted the words as soon as they left her mouth. Vaynar stopped, turned around, closed the few spaces between Emma and himself and squatted down beside her, seizing her by the hair again.

“excuse me?” he asked calmly. They had gathered an audienc
Two men had stopped to watch and a girl in a white vest was cowering behind a pillar by the staircase.

“You say we can’t escape, yet your spending a lot of resources to guard whats beyond the grounds..”

Vaynar’s face has lite up with amusement. He loosened her grip on Emma’s hair and leaned over her slightly. Emma bent back to the floor in response.. trying desperately to avoid close contact. His hand had slide to her inner thigh. It lay there passively but threateningly.

“Allow me to enlighten you, human..on matters you know not.” His hand inched closer.”Yes it’s an exit..but you can’t use it. if somehow, you did manage to flee beyond the fence..you would simply return at a corresponding point on the opposite side on the grounds..” Even closer..
“or..the void would rip you into a million pieces..alive.” Emma made a grab for his wrist. futile. “Then I would have to wait for you to incarnate into whichever innocent human you murdered and ejected from their body in the process.” Emma
Emma whined as his hand slid even further. “Then you might reincarnate into someone who wasn’t as nearly as sexy..and fun to play with…”With that he’d gotten off of her, and walked away. Shouting instructions for her to be carried to the infirmary for her knee.Emma had not seen Vaynar since, and she did not want to. She doubted he’d believe she’d tripped over the line because of a injury he’d inflicted.Still, there was the absence of the sonic screeching. Was the device off? Limping back over to the fence, she quickly scooped up three medium sized sticks. She stuck one through the fence bars. It was sucked forcefully from her hands, and disappeared instantly. wordless Emma raised the second stick to her mouth and took quick, hard, measured bites. Spiting the spare pieces, she did the same to the lasts tick. Holding them up the light she compared them. Yes, she would definitely be able to match them up. Quickly she tossed the marked branch into the void, then with great difficul
she stood, tucking its twin into her pocket.

if she could find the other stick.. she would know a little bit more about how the void worked.. if she couldn’t..well it was still more then she knew now. as far as Emma was concerned if the thing arrived intact, well that was good news.

Now her only task was to find it, taking one last look back..she stepped back onto the path..and slammed right into tall, hard, body..

Susan answers:

Vikings fans..Are you mad because you wont make playoffs this year cuz of Brett Favre’s cocktail weenie pics?

Lisa asks…

Why is my Cockatiel so aggressive?

I have two beautiful Cockatiels, a female lutino named Polly and a male regular gray named Paul.

I have a very strong bond with Polly and she gives me kisses on the nose. I love her so much.

On the other hand, Paul is the DEVIL. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to hand train him. When I reach into the cage, I be sure I do it slowly and with a confident smile on my face. But when I reach in to pet him, he won’t let me get within 5 inches from his head before he flips out, screams, hisses, spreads his wings, and tries multiple times to bite my finger off. I tried to train him, but he is just plain untrainable. Seriously, I’ve NEVER touched him b4. NEVER. He ripped out a chunk of my flesh the other day.

He is also aggressive towards Polly.

He won’t even let her sit on the same perch as him without biting her in the neck.

I don’t know why he’s doing this, because there is no reason to.

His environment is perfect. His cage is always clean, I give them fresh water every hour, and I always feed them fruits and vegetables along with their seeds. I give them millet spray, too.
I always try to get them outside their cage, but I usually leave Paul in the cage because whenever he does come out he is very stubborn to go back in. He isn’t hand trained, and when I try to grab him from behind (My only choice at this point,) he bites me, struggles, and when I release him he flies onto the top of the doorway to escape. Yesterday, I had to get a hand towel and sneak up behind him, grab him with the towel and put the towel in the cage just to get him back inside.

So, why is he so aggressive? I make sure their environment is perfect and am always super nice to them. They’re my little angels. I just want Paul to trust me, stop all this biting, and let me hold him.

BTW, treats do NOT motivate him. I’ve tried bananas, sunflower seeds, Peanut butter on toast, EV.ERY.THING. Nothing works with him, NOTHING!!!

I probably have the most aggressive cockatiel in captivity!!!

Susan answers:

You can read a fun book to him, softly. Then you can put him near your computer while you work. When he bites you, ignore him. Keep doing this :D He is biting because he is scared. You have to prove to him, you are nice and will not harm him.

Susan asks…

Can my new biting and hissing cockatiel ever like me? What do I do?

I have a 4month old lutino pearl cockatiel Cheeky, had him for about a month now.. The breeder told me he was hand fed but probably not.. as he bites and hisses.. he is very scared of everything, but I know he could be even worse, he doesnt bite hard yet.. He got little bit better as he will accept seeds from my hand and fingers.. his favourite is millet spray or sunflower seeds.. He was also fed walmart seed mix only and I am having hard time switching him to pellets and vegetables and fruits.. he won’t eat it except wheat grass.. But I need to keep offering and eventualy he will..
The problem is he won’t quit bitting even he knows I won’t hurt him.. He seems very agressive but its just fear.. I read lots of advices on different websites.. I read someone’s post… as only one I found.. recommending to hold the bird and scratch his head and eventually he will accept the person.. I thought that was mean and not a good way.. but it seems like my Cheeky will never quit biting.. I took him to a vet also for a check up and nail, wing clipping.. she was holding him and trying to calm him down, she said no way he was handled by hands.. he was a wiggle monster haha.. she said I can do that with him what really surprised me.. she seemed very experienced and calm.. also I read don’t put the bird on my shoulder but keep him lower.. but also the vet said walk around with him on your shoulder.. so I do here and there.. So today I gave up and just went for it, hold him in my hands as his biting is not super hard yet, but soon will be.. and just pet him behind his head and on his cheeks.. he fought me about 10 minutes but then gave up and let me rub his head, I thought great.. I win.. he seemed to enjoy it and started falling asleep, but couple minutes later again he just started biting and trying to escape, so I am really not sure if I won’t lose his trust and its really bad idea.. I am confused, do I persist on just feeding him of my hand slowly and hope he will become friendly or do I show him hard way that the fingers won’t hurt him.. Also he loves his decent size playtop cage, will stay inside always with doors opened, will not want to come out.. always talks to himself when put back, he is so happy there.. doesnt like it outside.. and even won’t take a bath.. so I have couple issues which I would like to handle better.. any advice please? is it ok what the vet told me to do that its fine to hold him and pet him even though he is so freaking out.. or do I just keep trying slow way.. just talking to him and don’t even pet him.. one lady said her bird never quit bitting.. that is what worrys me. I was hopping to have a loving cockatiel.. This one is soooooo stubborn, mean, scared, won’t eat healthy or take a bath or come out on his own! And he is starting to scream for what he wants! What do I do to change anything? Thank you so much
Sunshine

By what you are describing , your bird is a She and not a He, these are the typical traits of a female . As for feeding Pellets , forget it , your bird was reared on Seed, and this is the best thing for it, but add green veg ,such as Broccoli, Kale ,Spinach, Carrot never Lettuce or avocado.theses plus a good quality seed will keep your bird healthy and in tip top condition

As a breeder I will never feed any of my birds on Pellets.

Unless your bird has moulted or DNA sexed then it is not possible to visually sex it., so you will have to wait till it moults out.normally at 6 months old.

As for bathing , try spraying with a light warm mist from a household spray similar to what is used on plants
