Common Question…Does He Like Me?
Long story short. I like my neighbor, but Im not sure if he likes me. He texts me and I see him almost every day. When he talks to me he looks diretctly into my eyes, and I catch him staring all the time. Just the other day he texts me and asked what I was doing. I said I was bored, and that I was outside by myself, and he replied back, By yourself? Do you want some company?? Then I was like Yes I Do. So he came over. And this was like at 9:30 at night. Then tonight he comes over, and me my brother and him go to get some food, then we come home, and he takes a bunch of my sunflower seeds… Some how that leads to him saying that I could go over to his house. He even offered to let me use his spare bedroom at his house because I have family in town, and I have to sleep on the floor. Hes always saying things like “I know you want to hold my hand” and “I know you miss me when Im not here.”
Like I said I just want to know what everyone thinks. Does He like me??

Duh! I wish I had such strong signals from the guy I’m interested in!
Anybody who wonders what you’re doing at 9:30 pm is interested in you. Case closed.

Tiel, with cyst, advice please!!?
My tiel has been back an forth to the vet, been on antibiotics for over 6 weeks and finally the vet offered and needle aspiration and got a diagnosis of an epithelial cyst. it is above his eye and does now obscure his vision. Is this a feather cyst? Could it be from his sinus? He was originally diagnosed with Chlamydia psittaci, which is a very real possibility since he has done the course of his antibiotics the lump grew and changed colour. It has been up and down beforehand.
He has been battling on like a trooper for the last few weeks. He has now dropped body weight, only eating sunflower seeds. Doesn’t want to eat fruit or anything else really.
I don’t particularily want to change his food at this stage as he is in a weakened state. He really isn’t interested in anything but sunflowers. whether that is because that is all he cant distinguish, he is just being picky, or he knows that they are fatty.. not sure. He flicks his seed around to try to find them.
Firstly can i have some different suggestions on your parrots fav fruit or veg so i can give him an assortment to get him eating more, and give him some much need vitamins. Any known fruit or veg high in Vit A as this may also be a cause.
Secondly, my only option for treatment is to have the cyst removed surgically. My obvious fear is the anaesthetic firstly because he is a bird and secondly he isn’t well. My only other option is for him to go to sleep :_(
I don’t want to be cruel, but he has come this far and kept battling away. If you have has experience with birds in surgery or just some positive vibes would be helpful.. He is only young and one of my much loved feather babies..
Cheers

Susan answers:
Sorry to hear your bird is in such a bad way,but having the cyst removed surgically is a dangerous operation, not removing the cyst but the anaesthetic,is the most dangerous part of the operation.
So I would think long and hard as your bird is not now in good condition and this is when the anaesthetic would cause the most harm.(possibly death)
Try giving your bird a little piece of Broccoli, lots of birds will take this when feeling out of sorts.
Someone mentions they have had a number of operations and they are OK, this would not be the same for a bird having an operation , you can not give a Cockatiel artificial Respiration,so I do not know why they have this flippant attitude to some ones problems.
As I have already said I would not risk your bird with an operation at this time.and I do not believe your vet would carry out an operation
Note I have never known of Chlamydia in birds.

A Question About my Rattie?
I have an about 9 or 12 week old rat and she used to come out and play around her cage and when I called her she would come to the cage door she would greet me in the morning and rush out when she heard the bag of sunflower seeds but now she sleeps till like 4 then is up for maybe half an hour then go back to sleep and if i call her she doesn’t come out and she doesn’t come when a bag is crinkled or anything. I’m really paranoid when it comes to my pets and I’m worried about her. Tomorrow I’m getting her a friend because I think she might be lonely (even though I talk to her all the time and hold her, so does my mom) has this happened to your rats? What should I do? Will she get better once she has someone to play with.
She also used to jump and run around her cage very happily and doesn’t anymore.

Susan answers:
Rats are very social animals so another rat might be an idea especially if you dont have the time to have them out for 2-3 hours a night. I had a rat that would sulk if i didnt have her out for at least that amount of time and if i ever went on holiday she would refuse to eat, even when my parents would have her out for hours a day.
However! It wont be as simple as going here you are a new friend! Ive introduced afew new rats into my rat colonies, it involves days and weeks of work. You need to start by having two cages and having them close so they can smell but not see each other, have a shirt that you play and hold each rat in and then take that over to the next rat when you play with them, this will help spread the smells onto each other and onto you. Then let them see each other through the bars, you will normally get a good idea if any of the rats are going to be aggressive. The next step is to find a neutral and safe place for both rats to meet. Ive found that the bath as a nice safe place where you can easily grab a rat if they dont get on. Depending on how this goes this will need repeating for the first time up to about 15-20 mins will be enough, as you dont want to stress any of them out, they will probably be very interested in each others smell, this is where the work with the shirt of towel comes in because they should smell alittle bit like each other. I normally repeat this afew times making this time fun, so get some toys out pick them up lots of fussing just letting them get on and explore together. I find that the next step is to allow the older rat to explore the other rats cage, with the door open so either rat can escape to you if feel threatened. Again if this is going well you may want to shut the door. Repeat this again making this fun and interesting for them. When you feel happy leave the rats together, i normally leave them together when both rats start settling down to sleep especially if they curl up together. I have also spent the night sleeping next to the cage when ive introduced rats into my colony, however, ive never had to break up any fights between them so this really isnt needed just something i do.
Be aware that they may fall out and fight over ddominancemore than two sisters, Please, do not let this put you off getting another rat, they work you put is worth it! And alot of the work you would need to be doing in training a new baby rat. But once you have sorted it you will find that your playfull little girl will come back and you will have two bundles of joy!
Good luck!
