Mary asks…
Having a firefighter retirement party…..?
I need ideas for unique table centerpieces for a firefighter retirement party I’m hosting at a banquet hall. Also need ideas for decorations….other than cheesy firefighter napkins,etc…..This is a party for 150 adults.

Susan answers:
Buy some kids or dressup fireman red hats, and place them upside-down on the tables with chip dip or salad in them for a cute bowl idea.
Adorn tables with red/orange/yellow streamers representing fire – Coloured Tinsel works great too!
Little toy firetrucks would be cute on the table, or cutout firetruck place cards if you’re assigning seating.
When guests arrive play ironic music (songs with lyrics like: Burn baby burn, I’m on fire! Etc. ) if you’ve seen bedtime stories this was one of the parts
Candles with flames should be on all tables
Dalmations or firedogs would be cute, raffle a giant stuffed dalmation as a door prize.
A fire extinguisher would make a funny table centrepiece as well
Good luck!

Mandy asks…
Does any1 know any good craft/hobby forums out there and also…?
does any1 have any or have seen any good ideas/suggestions on baby’s 1st bday centerpieces. The theme is Little Suzy’s Zoo, not to be mistaken with just the regular Suzy’s Zoo.
And b4 anybody makes ignorant comments like i have been getting b4 wen i asked this question in the past, the reason y my family is making my daughter’s 1st bday such a big celebration is bc where i come fr (hawaii) 1st bday luaus are particularly special bc back in the old hawaiian days, as with many other places too, most babies didnt make it thru the 1st yr. So these days when baby turns 1, we make big celebrations. For instance, my bf and I booked chinese dancing lions for good luck and protection. People here make bigger parties for their kids wen they turn 1 than wen they turn 16. Better that way, I guess. You wont have a nagging spoiled 16 yr old telling u wat they want and they need to have! In any case, any serious suggestions and help would be greatly appreciated. thanks…

Cowboy Elmo Birthday Party Centerpiece Ideas?
My baby boy is turning 1! Theme is Cowboy Elmo or like a rodeo. I made a ticket to his FIRST rodeo as his invitation. So I am needing ideas for the centerpiece.. any suggestions I would appreciate. Thanks!
…Thank you both for the ideas!! I am looking for the small hay bales, horses and Elmo’s! I am combining both of the suggestions! Thanks a million!

Susan answers:
Congratulations on your baby turning 1!
That sounds like a cute idea!
I like the felt vest idea from other post, although I’d probably make vest a different color since Elmo is already red…perhaps a white vest with a red or blue #”1″ cut out of felt…and add a sheriffs star too! Then just sit Elmo directly on table, or a hay bale, and have him holding 3 helium balloons.
Red bandanas make great napkins. Tie them with raffia in place of napkin rings for a rustic look. Serve lemonade or some other drink in tin cups (available at camping stores).. Or use mason jars.
You could also purchase straw or cowboy hats, turn upside down & use them to serve chips in. They could also make a cute holder for the bandana napkins in a buffet.
