Mary asks…
color scheme for bat mitzvah?
in the morning the colors are robin egg blue, light hot pink (if that makes sense to you) and a pearly white. what color scheme should i do for the party at night? you can give more than 1 scheme! i was thinking dark purple, light purple and silver maybe. but it was hard to find centerpieces. if you find any cool ideas for some centerpieces that would be great!!
i dont have a theme.

Susan answers:
I like your purple idea. Here are some of my ideas:
Lime Green, Purple, Black
Red, White, Black
Pink, Green, Silver
Red, Purple, Black
Lime Green, Dark Blue, Purple
Light Blue, Dark Blue, Silver
For the centerpiece you can do a cool flower arrangement, something made to look like flowers. Also, maybe a bowl of something really cool.

“Day Of” planners. Thoughts? Ideas? Recommendations?
Here’s the deal- I’m planning my wedding all on my own, my family, 90% of fiance’s family & entire wedding party is all out-of-state and will be arriving 1 day before the wedding. That means we will be very hectic at the last minute and I’d feel very guilty doling out jobs to people like being at the reception site to make sure my centerpieces are setup right, hanging out for the cake delivery, distributing the flowers when they arrive, etc etc etc.
So I am going to meet with a planner with the hopes of hiring her for “day of” planning. Basically, be there and check that things are the way I want them since I can’t be in 3 places at the same time.
I’ll find out fees and such when I meet her, she did say it would be a flat fee (she is looking to cut breaks in exchange for recommendations she can post on her website so I’m hopeful I can afford her).
Has anyone dealt with a ‘day of’ planner?
What was your experience – good/bad?
What would you have done differently?
How did you handle things when you didn’t have family that could help you?
And if anyone has experiences with planners in the Harrisburg, PA area I’d love recommendations!
Its a joke with my fiance that I’m totally Obsessive-Compulsive about being organized. At a year to the wedding, I’ve got centerpieces, favors, everything I need is ready to roll. I can’t buy candy for the favors til’ closer to the wedding, but those will be ready at least a week ahead.
The problem is that I can setup alot before hand but there are certain things I just cannot be there to do. Ex: my centerpieces have an LED light in them and candles. If I set ‘em up at 10am at the reception site and turn them on, they’ll burn out in 8 hours, or around 6pm, which is only 2 hours into the reception. I need them turned on & lit between 3:30 and 4pm which is when the ceremony is taking place. I can’t delegate that since they need to be at the church, too.
I’m not planning to visit with family before the wedding, but I do need to deal with the bridal party – nail appointments, rehearsal dinner (we are making the food), hair/makeup on the day of. I can’t be in two places at once.

My wedding was at a Bed & Breakfast, and the wedding coordinator for the day of the wedding came with the package we bought. I LOVED her and I thought she was priceless. I didn’t have a care in the world on my wedding day. My florist came to set up and checked in with her, my string quartet, my DJ, my bartender, everyone. I didn’t have to deal with ANYONE, nor did my family members. Her service was awesome. Also, during the reception she helped move things along (as did the DJ, they coordinated together) like doing the cake cutting, bouquet, etc. At one point, we hadn’t eaten yet and she saw that we were “stuck” in a line of people congratulating us. It kind of just started with a few people coming over, and ended up with people lining up to talk to us. I was STARVED and we both wanted a drink and I really just wanted to sit down. Somehow she saw us and came over and politely excused us, claiming some sort of wedding business. It was so politely done, and it freed us up to sit and have a quick bite to eat! Lol. We were able to get back to our guests later for more conversation.
As an added bonus, when we went up to our Honeymoon Suite at the Bed & Breakfast after everything was over, she had taken a HUGE piece of cake (which I never did get to eat a slice of) and put it on a plate with saran wrap and 2 forks, she put a chilled bottle of wine and 2 glasses, and a basket with the cards left by our guests. It was such a thoughtful touch, and I truly appreciated it. Her services came with the package, but we tipped her an extra $200 anyway because I loved her so much!

Party Help?!?
Ill be 16 in the Summer and im having my sweet 16 at a beautiful catering hall. The theme is Fifth Avenue and each table is going to be a different store. Please keep in mind that both family and friends will be attending I already know what i want ideas for the centerpieces (each will be different and willl coordinate with a store) but i need help with other decorations and how to incorporate the theme more. Also the catering hall lets you only pick 2 napkin colors and i have to have a white tablecloth

Susan answers:
Hmm, maybe baby blue and soft grey napkins?
You could have trees in a lane like they would be down a street, maybe have mannequins all over the place wearing the latest clothing to make it seem as though they are shopping?
Fairy lights would be important, like the lights on the buildings and street lamps.. I’m not sure what else to incorperate..
I hope you have a great party! It seems you have a great deal of planning already done.
